ZIMBABWE’S thrust for a private sector-led economy is on track after the business community pledged to work with government on economic development policies.

The engagement between government and Business Member Organisations which include the Confederation Zimbabwe Industries, Buy Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce this Wednesday marked another milestone in promoting a private sector-led economy.

For the business community, it is all about mutual understanding with government on matters of national economic interest.

“The business community is committed to working closely with the government. Today’s engagement reflects our shared vision to reinforce a private sector-led economy. These platforms allow us to build stronger networks and explore collaborative opportunities for future growth,” Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries’ Chief Executive Officer, Ms Sekai Kuvarika said.

Buy Zimbabwe’s General Manager, Mr Alois Burutsa, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the value of continuous dialogue.

“A lot needs to be done to consolidate the engagements because we find them to be fruitful and cordial. Riding on what happened today, indeed we are committed to upscale the ties and focus on the job at hand, which is to review cooperation, identify loopholes and focus on the way forward,” he said.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Honourable Mangaliso Ndlovu said government is hopeful the private sector will help consolidate economic development goals.

“The government remains fully committed to working with the private sector. These engagements are essential for reviewing and strengthening cooperation. Our discussions were productive, and they reaffirm our intention to move forward together, based on recent agreements and long-standing partnerships.”

The private sector is also expected to contribute to the achievement of a projected six percent growth rate by the end of the year.
