THE Government has reaffirmed the critical role traditional leaders play in advancing national development efforts, which are essential for the attainment of Vision 2030.

This was emphasised during the installation of 46-year-old Venon Muringani as Chief Maromo at a colourful ceremony held in Chikomba on Wednesday.

Speaking to hundreds of community members gathered for the occasion, the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable Daniel Garwe, said traditional leaders are central to the execution of rural development projects and the preservation of Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage.

“Our Chiefs play a vital role in our drive towards Vision 2030 and preserving our cultural norms and values by overseeing development projects in rural areas.”

Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Itayi Ndudzo weighed in saying Chiefs are critical in driving the devolution agenda of the Second Republic.

“Your leadership is crucial in driving the devolution agenda from the grassroots level. We look to you to foster peace and unity, and create an environment where development can thrive.”

Fellow traditional leaders urged the newly installed Chief to embrace everyone in his new role.

He becomes the second substantive Chief Maromo after the resuscitation of the chieftainship in 2014.

He replaces the late Augustine Mugari Mombeshora who died in 2020.
