RESIDENTS of Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo have welcomed the launch of the Presidential Boreholes Scheme, describing it as a transformative initiative that will improve access to reliable water supplies.
The development forms part of the Second Republic’s multi-pronged strategy to address Bulawayo’s longstanding water challenges and provide sustainable solutions to recurring shortages affecting communities across the city.
The Scheme was unveiled in Ward 26 of Cowdray Park.
“This development comes at a critical time when the city continues to grapple with persistent water shortages. We are very happy,” a resident said.
“This is the reason why we say our President must continue in office. We have never seen such development initiatives that touch people’s lives,” a community member said.
While Bulawayo has grappled with water shortages for years, government has been channeling short, medium, and long-term solutions.
In both the political and public leadership, the clarion call has been that all Bulawayo residents must work together in the development agenda.
“We want unity of purpose, we want to pull as one. We want to see a progressive city of Bulawayo,” ZANU PF Bulawayo Provincial Chairperson Cde Jabulani Sibanda said.
The Presidential Borehole Scheme is being implemented under the leadership of Presidential Investment Advisor to the President, Dr Paul Tungwarara, who urged Bulawayo residents to rise above political differences in the national development agenda.
“This is important, and we want to work together for progress in our nation. I even urge everyone here to rally behind CAB3 even though it is a done deal so that we continue on this great development trajectory,” he said.
Developed by the Prevail Group a private entity commissioned by government to undertake the works, the solar powered borehole has two 5 000-litre tanks supplying water to the community, while the nutrition garden will utilise the same water source.
