ZIMBABWE has reaffirmed its commitment to constitutionalism, the rule of law and the protection of fundamental freedoms at the 61st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
The country is represented at the high-level meeting by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Mrs Vimbai Nyemba.
The session provides Harare with a platform to outline progress made under the Second Republic in strengthening constitutional governance and aligning domestic legislation with both constitutional provisions and international obligations.
Through its participation, Zimbabwe is also expected to exchange best practices with other member states and reaffirm its commitment to transparency, accountability and international cooperation.
Government officials are set to detail legislative and institutional reforms undertaken in recent years to enhance the protection and promotion of human rights.
The 61st session officially opens on Monday, with discussions focusing on the role of emerging digital technologies in preventing and eliminating female genital mutilation (FGM).
