THE film and television industry has bid farewell to veteran actress Memory Bususu, who was laid to rest on Tuesday in Buhera District, marking the end of a celebrated career that touched audiences across Zimbabwe and beyond.

Bususu, best known for her outstanding performances in productions such as Pfuma Yenhaka and Paraffin, was widely regarded as a gifted and versatile actress whose ability to portray complex characters earned her admiration from both colleagues and viewers.

Fellow creatives said her talent was unmatched, noting her ability to fully immerse herself in roles that made her one of the most dependable figures in the industry.

“Memory had the ability to shake herself up and completely disappear into a role; she made me proud as a producer, she was one of my anchors,” film director, Agnes Gwatiringa said.

Film industry players added that, beyond her on-screen brilliance, Bususu was a mentor and mother figure to many.

“She was like a mother, the life of the set, we grew up watching her on television, it was an honour to work with her, but her legacy will live on through film,” film maker, Joe Njagu said.

“She was a great teacher; she guided and encouraged many, especially women, to grow and lead,” colleague, Prisca Zwawabaya said.

Family members said her impact extended beyond the screen, bringing joy and unity into homes across the country.

“She made people laugh, she brought joy into families and for us, she showed us love and how to love each other,” her daughter, Bianca Machema said.

As the nation mourns, many say her absence leaves a gap that cannot be filled, but her work will continue to inspire future generations.

Bususu is survived by three children and her husband, Peter Makiwa.
