SHOCK and grief continue to grip Eastview Area 10 in Mabvuku as new details emerge following the deaths of two children in a suspected domestic violence incident.
A sombre atmosphere hangs over the neighbourhood, where relatives have gathered at the family home while neighbours struggle to come to terms with the events that unfolded in the early hours of Monday.
Family members said there had been no obvious signs that the young family was experiencing serious problems.
“They came to my house for prayers and I even gave them sweet potatoes. They showed no sign of a family in turmoil. I was surprised to hear later that he (Gift) had murdered his children,” said the children’s uncle, Mr Leonard Chinyakwa.
Relatives believe the suspect may have been dealing with unresolved personal issues.
“He was always quiet and he never shared anything with anyone. I want to think there is something that was happening and he never talked to anyone about it,” said his sister, Ms Joyce Sani.
According to family members, the suspect allegedly attacked his wife, Ms Tsitsi Zuze (22), before the fatal incident involving their children.
“She was left with a deep wound that can fit four fingers. It is a miracle she survived,” Mr Chinyakwa said.
After sustaining the injuries, Ms Zuze reportedly walked several kilometres to her parents’ home to seek help.
Her mother, Ms Mariah Chinyakwa, said her daughter arrived during the night in a critical condition.
“She came in the middle of the night covered in blood. She told us her husband had killed their children and she was badly injured. She was so drained and we rushed her to hospital to receive treatment.”
The tragedy has left both families searching for answers as police continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The incident has once again highlighted the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of resolving family disputes peacefully.
