THE Victoria Falls Rainforest has reopened after the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) safely removed two elephants from the protected area following a temporary closure on Tuesday.
The rainforest was closed for about two and a half hours to allow wildlife officials to monitor the animals and carry out a controlled operation to move them away from the UNESCO World Heritage Site, ensuring the safety of visitors and staff.
ZimParks spokesperson Mr Luckmore Safuli said the operation confirmed that two elephants had entered the rainforest, contrary to earlier reports indicating there was only one.
Following a safety assessment, the area was declared secure and normal tourism activities resumed at one of Zimbabwe’s premier tourist attractions and one of the world’s best-known natural wonders.
ZimParks said repair work is now underway on sections of the rainforest that were damaged during the incident.
