THE Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has temporarily restricted public access to the Victoria Falls Rainforest following reports of an elephant roaming in the area.
The precautionary measure, announced on Tuesday, is aimed at protecting visitors, staff and wildlife while reducing the risk of human-wildlife conflict.
In a public notice, ZimParks said its teams are closely monitoring the situation and will reopen the rainforest once it is safe to do so.
“Access to the Victoria Falls Rainforest has been temporarily restricted following reports of an elephant active in the area.”
The authority said the temporary closure is intended to safeguard both people and wildlife as officers manage the situation.
“The restriction has been instituted as a precautionary measure to safeguard visitors, staff, and wildlife, and to reduce the risk of human-wildlife conflict.”
Members of the public have been urged to stay away from the restricted area and avoid interfering with wildlife management operations.
“Members of the public are urged not to enter the restricted area, approach the elephant, or interfere with ongoing wildlife management efforts.”
ZimParks also called on visitors and tour operators to follow all instructions issued by its personnel and other relevant authorities.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and wildlife conservation, saying further updates will be communicated through its official channels once conditions allow the rainforest to reopen.
