ONGOING police reforms and capacitation programmes are strengthening safety, disaster response and law enforcement efficiency in Midlands Province, as Government intensifies efforts to improve service delivery across the country.
The developments came into focus during the retirement send-off of Assistant Commissioner Christopher Ngulube, where stakeholders highlighted leadership, training and welfare improvements as key pillars driving transformation within the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
Stakeholders noted that security and stability remain critical enablers of socio-economic development, providing the foundation for investment, productivity and the protection of livelihoods.
Government reforms under the Second Republic are transforming the police service into a professional, accountable and people-centred institution, supported by improved mobility, modern tools of trade and enhanced operational efficiency.
Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube, said the reforms are strengthening policing standards.
“Since the inception of the Second Republic in November 2017, President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa has transformed the Zimbabwe Republic Police into a professional and responsive people-orientated force. In addition, the rollout of training programmes under the “Back to Basics” model is equipping officers with contemporary policing standards, while reinforcing discipline and public trust,” Midlands Province Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Honourable Owen Ncube said.
In a speech read on his behalf, ZRP Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba stressed the importance of a disciplined workforce.
“This man has served for years with unwavering dedication. Commitment beyond ages, something that should be emulated. A disciplined Officer is a prerequisite,” Chief Staff Officer Training Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner Wonder Tembo said.
In the Midlands Province, the reforms are yielding measurable results, with police dismantling 78 drug bases and arresting over 300 suspects in intensified operations against substance abuse.
Disaster response systems have also improved, with a joint operation rescuing 19 people during recent floods in Mberengwa District.
