Southern African Development Community (SADC) Chairperson President Emmerson Mnangagwa has acknowledged the ruling by the Mozambique Constitutional Council of Election Results which upheld FRELIMO party’s victory following the October 9 General Elections.
In a statement, President Mnangagwa said the ruling completes all lawful processes on determining election results, in line with that Mozambique’s national laws, and in keeping with SADC election guidelines and expectations.
The regional bloc chairperson urged all parties to the electoral process to respect the decision of the Council to facilitate greater peace, normalcy and stability in Mozambique.
President Mnangagwa said the region is ready to assist the incoming government and the people of Mozambique in consolidating electoral democracy guided by the rule of law.
He urged the international community to respect the sovereign will of the people of Mozambique, exhorting all concerned parties to constructively support processes towards peace, law and order.
