WORK on the rehabilitation of the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Highway is gathering momentum, with Government opening an additional 9.2 kilometres to traffic as the flagship infrastructure project advances under the National Development Strategy Two (NDS2).
The latest milestone brings the total stretch opened to motorists to more than 68 kilometres, as Government continues upgrading one of the country’s key transport corridors to improve connectivity within the SADC region.
Transport operators welcomed the progress, saying the upgraded sections have reduced travelling time and improved road safety.
“We can see that things are improving on this road since the works started,” one of the transporters said.
“We are now taking less time because of the completed kilometres,” another transporter said.
The contractor responsible for the works said construction remains on schedule.
“We are on course with our stretch, and we are still within the timeframe,” the contractor said.
Representing the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Engineer Mxolisi Ncube said the project is part of Government’s broader infrastructure modernisation programme aimed at supporting national development.
“So far, we have opened 68 kilometres of the highway to traffic,” Engineer Mxolisi Ncube said.
The Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Highway rehabilitation is being implemented through local contractors as Government continues to expand and modernise the country’s road network in line with its infrastructure development agenda.
