THE Chiefs Village Lounge in Bulawayo hosted a farewell dinner and live performance for Matojeni Melo Maniacs on Sunday evening as the group prepares to embark on its third European tour next week.
Fans gathered in large numbers to bid farewell to the traditional music ensemble, which is renowned for preserving and promoting Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage through music, dance and drumming.
The group delivered an energetic performance featuring traditional choreography, powerful drumbeats and authentic cultural displays, drawing enthusiastic support from the audience.
Fans praised the group for representing Zimbabwe on the international stage and wished them success on their tour.
“This was a wonderful show. We enjoyed the vocals, dancing, drums and beats. We are proud to see these young artists preparing to represent Zimbabwe’s culture internationally. We wish them all the best and a safe journey,” said Sukoluhle Ncube.
Fellow musicians commended Matojeni Melo Maniacs for promoting Zimbabwean culture and creating opportunities for local artists abroad.
“We have enjoyed what Matojeni has done, showcasing the beauty of our culture. Where they are going, people will enjoy what comes from Bulawayo and Zimbabwe as a whole,” said artist Mothusi Bashimane Ndlovu.
Artist Jeys Marabini said the group’s continued international recognition reflects its growing impact.
“This is their third time going to Europe to represent Zimbabwe. We expect this tour will open more opportunities to travel to other countries,” he said.
Matojeni Melo Maniacs member Gugulethu Sibanda said the group was encouraged by the support shown at the farewell event and looked forward to representing Zimbabwe overseas.
“We are excited that people came in numbers to support us. We will be going to Europe next week on our third tour… this year we will be touring Germany for the first time, adding to other countries we have travelled to in the past,” she said.
The group is expected to begin its European tour next week, with Germany among the destinations on its itinerary.
