THE growing strategic partnership between Zimbabwe and Belarus took centre stage on Friday as Harare joined Minsk in commemorating Belarus National Day, with both countries reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation across key sectors of the economy.
The occasion highlighted the strengthening bilateral relationship, which has broadened in recent years to cover agriculture, mining, education, health, manufacturing, science and technology, skills development and infrastructure.
The Zimbabwe-Belarus Agricultural Mechanisation Programme remains one of the flagship areas of cooperation, providing modern farming equipment that has boosted agricultural productivity and supported national food security.
The partnership has also expanded through educational exchanges, technical training and industrial collaboration aimed at promoting knowledge transfer and supporting Zimbabwe’s industrialisation drive.
Belarusian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, H.E. Yury Nikalaichyk, said the relationship between the two countries continues to gather momentum.
“The partnership has been characterised by growing trade, high-level exchanges and continued engagement between the two governments, with both nations reaffirming their commitment to implementing mutually beneficial projects.”
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Frederick Shava said the bilateral relationship reflects the value of cooperation founded on mutual respect and shared development objectives.
“We celebrate with Belarus on this momentous day and as a country that has stood by us through many challenges and your support for our non-permanent seat on the UNSC reflects the strong ties that bind our countries together. As we celebrate, we reaffirm Zimbabwe’s strong commitment to strengthening and deepening the strong bonds of friendship between our people.”
As Belarus marked its National Day, the two countries reiterated their resolve to deepen cooperation in agriculture, education, manufacturing, innovation, infrastructure development and other strategic sectors to advance sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.
