The Zimbabwe Sables are brimming with confidence as they prepare to face Algeria in the Rugby Africa Cup final on Sunday, despite the absence of three key players.
Tino Mavesera, Cleopas Kundiona, and Ian Prior have returned to their clubs, leaving a gap in the Sables’ lineup. However, head coach Pieter Benade is optimistic about his team’s ability to adapt.
“We always need a couple of versatile players, and in Zimbabwe we do have that,” Benade said. “We have a couple of guys who always can cover a number of spots. So, yeah, we’re looking at that. I think we’ve seen the way Musingwini performed at the wing.”
Godfrey Mazanargwo, one of the replacements called up for the final, is excited about the opportunity to represent his country. “It’s been an amazing experience and what better team to join than a team that just broke the history of more than 22 years not beating Namibia,” he said.
The Sables have been making the most of their time in Kampala, not only focusing on training but also giving back to the community. They hosted a skills coaching session for primary school children after their final training session on Friday.
The match against Algeria promises to be a thrilling encounter, with both teams eager to claim the coveted Africa Cup title.
