Amakhosi aim to end month-long winless run as PSL matchday 16 beckons

BULAWAYO Chiefs will be aiming to end a month-long wait for victory when they face Hunters FC in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 16 encounter in Harare this Friday.

Amakhosi Amahle have struggled for consistency in recent weeks, having failed to register a win since their 2-1 triumph over CAPS United on May 2.

Since then, Chiefs have recorded draws against Herentals and Triangle United before suffering defeats to Hardrock and Ngezi Platinum Stars. Their most recent outing ended in a goalless draw against Manica Diamonds.

Despite the difficult run, head coach John Nyikadzino believes his side is making progress, particularly after keeping a clean sheet in their last match.

“We are expecting a tough match because Hunters have a very good coach. We watched them play Highlanders and we know what they are capable of,” said Nyikadzino.

“What makes me happy is that we had been conceding many goals in previous matches, but against Manica Diamonds we managed to keep a clean sheet. That is a positive. Now we need to improve in attack, find the back of the net and come away with a result.”

Nyikadzino also downplayed the prospect of immediate activity during the upcoming mid-season transfer window, saying the club remains focused on developing its current squad.

“At the moment we are happy with the squad we have. Our priority is to keep improving. Any decisions regarding changes will only be made if necessary at a later stage,” he said.

Elsewhere, Matchday 16 will feature a top-of-the-table showdown at Rufaro Stadium, where surprise package Herentals takes on defending champions Scottland.

Other fixtures see AGAMA hosting Chicken Inn at Wadzanayi Stadium, Ngezi Platinum Stars facing MWOS at Baobab Stadium and TelOne welcoming Highlanders to Ascot Stadium.

Sunday’s programme includes CAPS United against ZPC Kariba at Rufaro Stadium, Triangle United versus FC Platinum at Gibbo Stadium, Manica Diamonds hosting Dynamos at Sakubva Stadium and Hardrock taking on Simba Bhora at Chahwanda Stadium.
