In a bid to enhance public safety and regulate the firearms industry, the government has introduced new licensing fees payable in local currency.
The move, outlined in a Statutory Instrument published this Friday, standardises costs for various firearm-related permits.
Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, Honourable Kazembe Kazembe announced that the fee for importing or renewing a Firearm Certificate has been set at US$50, while Firearm Transit Permits and Dealers’ Import and Export Permits will cost US$100.
Firearms dealers license US$1000, Reloaders permit US$1 000, while renewing a dealer’s license will now cost US$200.
All payments will be made in local currency at the prevailing exchange rate.
The government believes these measures will help curb illegal firearm proliferation and promote responsible gun ownership.
By introducing a structured fee system, authorities aim to streamline the licensing process and improve security.
The new regulations underscore the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens from gun-related violence.
