A public lecture series on Constitutional Amendment No. 3 was held in Bulawayo this Friday, bringing together stakeholders to discuss governance, legislative frameworks, and national development.
Government continues to promote ideological awareness and policy engagement through the Constitutional Amendment number 3 Bill Public Lecture Series, which was taken to the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo this Friday.
“The bill is there to extend the term not just for the President or any individual, but for the government itself, so that they are able to implement all these projects that they have in place. For example, we have the National Development Strategy, which needs more time to be fully implemented. Extending that period to seven years gives them time to complete those projects,” NUST Student Industrial Manufacturing Engineering Grace Merembi said.
“This lecture has illuminated how our legislative frameworks are not just legal documents, but gears driving the engine of our nation’s prosperity under the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa. We affirm unwavering support for the journey towards 2030. As students, we are no longer just observers of development; we are a skilled workforce and innovative minds ready to defend in advance this national vision,” NUST SRC president Russell Mashinya said.
Experts have also weighed in, highlighting the importance of policy continuity in sustaining economic growth.
“The proposed electoral life cycle from five to seven years guarantees the longevity of sustained majority economic growth. This also means rethinking the durational terms of the presidency from being an executive power capture to setting sustainable frameworks that keep wealth in the hands of the black majority under a leadership system that understands the importance of economic democratisation,” Political Science Scholar and Pan Africanist Dr Richard Mahomva said.
The Constitutional Amendment number 3 Bill Public Lecture Series is expected to continue across the country, as government strengthens engagement platforms aimed at fostering inclusive participation in national development.
