A high-level Mozambican delegation from Tete Province has toured a granite processing plant and District Heroes Acre in Mutoko, as Zimbabwe intensifies preparations for provincial Independence celebrations.
The delegation, led by Cristina Mafumo, was hosted by Itayi Ndudzo, who showcased development projects driven by value addition and beneficiation in the district.
The visiting officials toured Rich Basin Cutting and Polishing Company and commended Zimbabwe’s push towards value addition, saying the initiative provides valuable lessons for their province as it seeks to accelerate economic development.
“We visited this factory because our counterpart wants to show us what they are doing to promote economic development. This is a positive development, and we have a lot to learn from here. They are processing and exporting to other countries. This factory earns a lot of money for the economy. We admire this capacity, they are not hurting the environment. We also look forward to joint ventures and establishing an investment like this in our province,” Tete Province Secretary of State Mrs Cristina Mafumo said.
Advocate Ndudzo highlighted developmental strides in Mutoko and preparations for the provincial Independence commemorations.
“We are hosting a high-powered government delegation from the Tete province of Mozambique, led by the Secretary of State for Tete province. They are here primarily to be our guests tomorrow for the 46th Independence Anniversary of Zimbabwe. We have taken time to show them the progress we have made as a nation in our 46 years of independence. Firstly, we have demonstrated to them how our devolution program is progressing.
“In Mutoko, we are utilising the abundantly available granite resource. We have set up a factory that is cutting, polishing, and designing our granite for the export market. From this factory, we are exporting granite to Poland, Germany, USA, Ghana, China, and many other parts of the world. This is the progress that we have made in the second republic under the leadership of his excellence the President, Dr Mnangagwa, and tomorrow we are fully geared for to have a historic provincial independent celebration here in Mutoko,” he said.
Mashonaland East provincial Independence celebrations are set to be held in Mutoko, with the visiting Mozambican delegation expected to attend the commemorations.
