Govt highlights broadcasting sector reforms under President Mnangagwa

THE Government has highlighted significant progress in Zimbabwe’s broadcasting sector under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, emphasising efforts to improve public access to information.
Speaking at a strategic workshop in Vumba on Thursday, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, outlined key achievements, citing the enactment of the Broadcasting Services Amendment Act as pivotal in transforming the sector.
“The transformation in the broadcasting sector achieved under the astute leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa are there for all to see, and the game changer is the Broadcasting Amendment Act which has brought a number of positive developments to the sector as we move towards ensuring all citizens have access to information,” Dr Muswere said.
The minister also highlighted the role of state-owned parastatals under his ministry, including the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), Zimpapers, Transmedia, and the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), noting that each entity must fulfil its mandate to strengthen service delivery.
“We have parastatals which fall under our ministry which include the ZBC, Zimpapers, Transmedia, BAZ which need to fulfil their mandate while a company like New Ziana has reached its lifespan and need to revamped so that it does its job properly,” Dr Muswere said.
The strategic workshop outcomes are expected to feed into National Development Strategy 2 set to start in 2026.
