Zimbabwe is once again in the global spotlight at the Venice Biennale, with its pavilion presenting a compelling exhibition titled “Second Nature” at the 61st edition of the prestigious showcase in Venice.
This marks the country’s eighth participation at the internationally acclaimed exhibition, which brings together nearly 100 national pavilions and is widely regarded as one of the most important platforms in contemporary art.
Curated by Fadzai Veronica Muchemwa, Second Nature features works from a diverse group of Zimbabwean artists, including Gideon Gomo, Eva Raath, Franklyn Dzingai, Felix Shumba and Pardon Mapondera.
The exhibition explores themes of identity, environment and lived experience, offering a layered reflection on the relationship between people and their surroundings.
Zimbabwe’s pavilion is set to be officially opened by Dr Nicholas Moyo, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, with a government delegation already in attendance.
Participation at the Venice Biennale forms part of Zimbabwe’s broader strategy to elevate its cultural footprint globally, creating pathways for local artists to engage with international audiences, curators and collectors.
