WHAT started as a promising season is slowly turning into a nightmare for Harare Giants Dynamos who have gone six matches without victory.
The common denominator in a spell that has been short on quality but long on mediocrity is the weakness of dropping points from promising positions.
Besides being draw specialists, Dynamos are also walking wounded after losing the latest edition of the Harare derby to bitter rivals CAPS United.
After flirting with disaster in the previous campaign, DeMbare appeared to have rediscovered their identity during the opening weeks of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, at one point sitting just a point behind log leaders CAPS United after six rounds of matches.
However, a damaging six-match winless streak has halted that momentum and left the Harare giants drifting away from the leading pack.
Dynamos have failed to collect maximum points in their last six outings, recording four draws and two defeats in a frustrating run that has transformed early optimism into growing concern among the club’s faithful.
While the Glamour Boys have remained competitive in most encounters, the numbers reveal a side struggling to turn effort into results.
The four draws have proven costly in a tightly contested title race, with Dynamos dropping 14 points from a possible 18 during the slump.
As the points slipped away, so too has their standing on the table.
After match-day six, DeMbare were within touching distance of the summit, but by week 12, they had fallen eight points behind their city rivals CAPS United, who continue to set the pace at the top.
A recurring pattern has emerged throughout the winless sequence, Dynamos have struggled to finish off matches.
In most of the drawn encounters, DeMbare failed to score more than once, leaving little margin for error at the back.
Although the defence has shown resilience at times, the attack has lacked the cutting edge required to secure victories.
The inability to find a decisive second goal has repeatedly allowed opponents back into games, turning promising positions into frustrating stalemates.
The latest results have intensified pressure on the technical team as supporters grow increasingly anxious over the club’s inability to convert performances into wins.
Unless Dynamos quickly rediscover their winning touch, the fear of another difficult season is resurfacing at a club where expectations are always high.
