ZIMBABWE’S senior cricket team, the Chevrons are in a strong position in the first test match being played in Sylhet against Bangladesh after the hosts ended day two trailing by 25 runs this Monday.

Zimbabwe enjoyed a superb start to their Test series against Bangladesh, dominating the opening day of the first match in Sylhet on Sunday with a commanding all-round performance.

After winning the toss, the hosts opted to bat first but were bundled out for just 191 on a pitch offering some assistance to the pace bowlers.

Zimbabwe then capped the day with a confident reply, reaching 67 without loss by stumps.

The second day saw Bangladesh putting in some good bowling to deny Zimbabwe a big lead, with the visitors being dismissed for 273.

Zimbabwe’s veteran Sean Williams and youngster Brian Bennett struck half-centuries.

Bangladesh were a bit more assured in their second innings after losing just one wicket before close of play.

Blessing Muzarabani made an early breakthrough, removing Shadman Islam for four, caught at slip by Williams, to leave the hosts at 13 for one.

Mahmudul Hasan with 28 and Mominul Haque with 15, both not out, then dug in to see out the remainder of the day.

At stumps, Bangladesh were 57 for one, still 25 runs behind and with nine wickets in hand.
