THE African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Continental Chief Executive Officer, Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre, has arrived in Zimbabwe for a five-day visit as Zimbabwe marks a significant step in Africa’s collective efforts to promote good governance and sustainable development.

The APRM, which focuses on governance, development and democracy among African Union member states, will see Zimbabwe hosting a high-level workshop in Harare this week.

The country’s membership is an opportunity to engage in technical sessions, peer review exchanges, and strategic planning aimed at enhancing national and continental governance frameworks.

“In 2024, Zimbabwe established institutions for the development of the APRM. The sixth cabinet decision of March 19, 2024, approved the instrumentation of the APRM Zimbabwe. Key appointments were made, including the designation of the National Focal Point and the chairperson of the National Governing Council,” APRM Zimbabwe’s Interim CEO Ambassador Rofina Chikava said.

Ambassador Chikava further explained that the National Governing Council comprises representatives from government, institutions, the private sector, and civil society, reflecting an inclusive approach.

The engagement is expected to adopt actionable recommendations that will enhance the effectiveness of the APRM in its mission to transform governance on the continent.

Ambassador Quatre is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with key stakeholders during her visit.

To ensure alignment with national priorities, the government approved economic governance and management as Zimbabwe’s thematic focus area.

The Second Republic continues to walk the talk on the engagement and re-engagement drive, testifying its dedication to the principles of good governance, inclusive development, and economic transformation as demonstrated by its alignment with the objectives of the APRM.
