VICE President General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga is in Azerbaijan for the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), where global leaders and policymakers are expected to deliberate on sustainable urbanisation and inclusive housing development.
The high-level forum, being held in Baku, brings together governments, development agencies and urban planning stakeholders to shape global strategies on housing, infrastructure and resilient cities.
Vice President Dr Chiwenga, who is leading the Zimbabwean delegation on behalf of President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, was received on arrival by Zimbabwe’s Acting Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mr Muponisi Dzapasi, alongside Azerbaijan’s Minister of Culture, Mr Adil Karimli.
Zimbabwe is expected to use the forum to engage with other countries on modern urban housing models and strategies aimed at improving sustainable human settlements.
Several engagements are lined up for Vice President Dr Chiwenga on the sidelines of WUF13 as Government intensifies efforts to drive socio-economic transformation through infrastructure development and modern urban planning.
Key issues on the WUF13 agenda include investment in affordable housing, the integration of informal settlements, and strengthening urban resilience to climate change.
