LOCAL renewable energy companies are accelerating the adoption of modern solar technologies as Zimbabwe intensifies efforts to improve energy efficiency, lower electricity costs and expand sustainable power solutions across key sectors of the economy.
Zimbabwe’s transition towards clean energy received a significant boost after a local solar company unveiled new technologies designed to improve system performance and reliability for domestic, agricultural and industrial use.
Among the innovations introduced are advanced Variable Frequency Speed Drivers (VFDs), which optimise the performance of solar-powered pumping and industrial systems by regulating motor speed and reducing energy consumption.
Frencon Chief Executive Officer, Mr Farai Matinenga, said the technologies are expected to improve productivity while lowering operational costs.
“The new technologies enhance productivity, lower operational costs and improve the reliability of solar installations across various sectors of the economy,” he said.
Renewable energy expert, Ms Erica Ruyi, said the innovations have the potential to transform irrigation systems and improve access to clean energy and water supplies.
“This cutting-edge technology helps many families and farmers to solve irrigation and daily water supply problems. It can assist the Zimbabwe local market to have stable, reliable, clean energy and safe water supply. So this is a great opportunity to promote the development of Zimbabwe’s agriculture,” she said.
Industry experts say innovation, skills development and increased investment in renewable energy infrastructure remain critical in accelerating Zimbabwe’s transition towards sustainable energy solutions.
Zimbabwe has witnessed growing uptake of solar energy technologies as households, farmers and industries increasingly turn to renewable energy in response to rising electricity demand and the need for reliable power alternatives.
