The government of Zimbabwe is set to second more teachers to Rwanda under the Educational Personnel and Expertise bilateral arrangement between the two countries.
This came to the fore when the Joint Parliamentary Portfolio Committees on Foreign Affairs and International Trade and Primary and Secondary Education deliberated on the agreement on Exchange of Educational Personnel and Expertise between Zimbabwe and Rwanda at the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden this Tuesday.
“The Joint Technical Committee of Zimbabwe conducted a monitoring visit for the experts in Rwanda from 12-18 May 2024. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the working conditions and getting firsthand information from the experts. The delegation visited all TTCS where the Zimbabwean experts are deployed. After visiting all the stations, the delegation concluded that the government of Rwanda is impressed by conduct and performance of duty by educational experts seconded from Zimbabwe. There were no adverse reports raised against Zimbabwe teachers,” said the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Mr Simon Masanga.
Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Industry and Commerce received oral evidence from Sugarcane Farmers Association, Sugar Millers and Refiners on challenges affecting the sugar industry.
“We are calling for the government to assist us as sugarcane farmers so that we can increase production,” said a farmer, Mr Effort Mtombeni.
The chairperson of the Zimbabwe Sugarcane Development Association, Mr Elisha Tamirepi said, “If we increase our production, we will go a long way in the production of the country’s sugar. Also the issue of shortages which is experienced at times will be a thing of the past.”
The committee pledged to assist farmers to boost sugarcane production.
“We are going to visit your farms so that we can see how we can assist and boost the country’s sugarcane production,” said Honourable Ngonidzashe Mudekunye.
Government is providing support to sugarcane farmers through initiatives such as subsidised inputs, irrigation schemes and extension services to enhance productivity and sustainability.
