Zimbabwe, Korea pledge to deepen trade, economic ties

ZIMBABWE and the Republic of Korea have pledged to expand trade and economic cooperation, in a move expected to boost economic growth and development in the two nations.

The pledge, meant to enhance and strengthen the relationship between the two countries was made during the 2024 Republic of Korea Festival in Harare Wednesday night.

Zimbabwe was represented by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Honourable Sheillah Chikomo who applauded Korea for its continued support.

“I wish to express gratitude to the Korean Government for its timely pledge to donate food to Zimbabwe in response to the plea by His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa for humanitarian assistance to mitigate the effects of El Nino-induced drought. The relationship between Zimbabwe and Korea was further strengthened by the visit by President Emerson Mnangagwa to Korea in June for the Korea -Africa Summit which was held from 4-6 June 2024. I wish to reaffirm Zimbabwe’s commitment to broaden and deepen trade and economic cooperation,” she said.

Korean Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Jae Kyung Park said his country will continue cooperating with Zimbabwe in various sectors.

I am very happy that today we managed to successfully host this event here in Zimbabwe and the support we are getting from the government. We are looking forward to continuing working together with the government of Zimbabwe in various sectors including agriculture and mining,” he noted.

The celebrations were spiced up by performances from the Zimbabwe and Republic of Korea taekwondo teams.

Zimbabwe and Korea enjoy strong diplomatic relations traced to the 1990s, collaborating in various sectors including agriculture, health, education and infrastructure development.
