BULAWAYO – CAPTAIN Craig Ervine and bowler Wellington Masakadza’s resistance was in vain as South Africa thumped Zimbabwe by 328 runs in the first Test that ended at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, this Tuesday.

South Africa’s All-rounder Corbin Bosch took a five-wicket haul to go with his maiden century as a much-changed South Africa thumped hosts Zimbabwe on day four of the first Test in Bulawayo.

Set a massive target of 537 for victory, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 208.

Chevrons Craig Ervine and Wellington Masakadza provided some resistance with a stand of 83 for the seventh wicket, but when Ervine was caught by De Zorzi off the bowling of Bosch, South Africa mopped up the tail.

The captain was far from being impressed by his batters.

“From a batting perspective, a few guys got starts, including myself, but we need to go on and get 100s, 30s, and 40s will not cut it at this level,” Craig Ervine said.

Zimbabwe started the day on 32-1 needing 505 runs and South Africa needing 9 wickets to win.

Corbin Bosch struck early in the first session removing Nick Welch with the first ball of the day.

That wicket led to another and eventually Zimbabwe were dismissed on day four to go one-nil down in the two-match Test Series.
