BEIJING, China – ZIMBABWE and China have intensified efforts to strengthen media cooperation, technology transfer and skills development following the conclusion of a high-level bilateral media seminar in Beijing.
The two-week capacity-building programme, held from May 7 to May 20, brought together 29 media practitioners from various Zimbabwean media houses for advanced training, strategic exchanges and institutional engagements aimed at modernising Zimbabwe’s media landscape.
The seminar culminated in renewed calls for stronger Global South solidarity, enhanced media collaboration and accelerated knowledge sharing between Zimbabwe and the People’s Republic of China.
Participants underwent an intensive programme comprising expert-led lectures, interactive workshops and high-level site visits across Beijing and Chongqing, exposing delegates to emerging trends in digital media, broadcasting innovation and content production.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Chief Director in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Jonathan Gandari, said strengthened bilateral cooperation is critical to improving Zimbabwe’s media standards and production capacity.
“Such cooperation will help uplift media standards in Zimbabwe, improve content production, and strengthen content sharing between the two nations so that our people-to-people relations are supported,” Mr Gandari said.
Director of Executive Department III at the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO), Mr Wu Wei, described the seminar as a significant milestone in strengthening diplomatic and institutional relations between the two countries.
“Through open exchanges and in-depth sharing, we have enhanced mutual understanding and laid a solid foundation for long-term media cooperation and academic exchanges between the two countries,” he said.
The programme also featured the participation of the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Zhemu Soda, who held high-level engagements on the sidelines of the seminar focused on future frameworks for media convergence and cooperation.
