ZIMBABWE continued to build momentum at the African Youth Games in Angola on Sunday, securing two additional gold medals in golf to raise the country’s overall medal tally to ten.
Munesu Chimhini delivered a composed and resilient performance in the men’s golf event, recovering from a three-shot deficit to claim gold after finishing one under par, underlining Zimbabwe’s growing strength in the sport.
In the women’s competition, Miriam Masiya sealed Zimbabwe’s first gold in ladies’ golf, holding her nerve to sink a decisive putt on the 18th hole in a tightly contested final round.
The two gold medals push the country’s tally after having already secured one silver and seven bronze, while there are still contestations in another bronze event.
Later this Sunday, the swimming team of Kristin Jones, Callum Chisholm, and Connor Grist is set to compete in the 400-metre freestyle finals, while Nathan Chibva dives into the 200-metre breaststroke.
Tennis begins this Monday, with Bryne Dube facing off against Mounes Shahata of Libya in the singles opener.
