CAPS United ended a six-match winless run with a deserved 2-0 victory over struggling Manica Diamonds in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Sakubva Stadium this Saturday.
The win was Makepekepe’s first in 42 days, following their last league victory over ZPC Kariba at Rufaro Stadium.
Having endured a difficult spell of five draws and one defeat, CAPS United responded with a disciplined performance to get their campaign back on track.
Goals from Chawanangwa Kawonga and Chris Mugalu secured all three points and eased the pressure on the Green Machine.
CAPS United coach Takesure Chiragwi welcomed the result, saying it would boost his team’s confidence.
“Very happy with the result; this will start giving the team confidence going forward,” he said.
For Manica Diamonds, the defeat marked a second successive loss as they continue their fight against relegation.
Coach Herbert Maruwa admitted the result was disappointing but remained encouraged by the team’s progress.
“Disappointed with the result but happy with the progress since I came here,” he said.
Elsewhere, FC Platinum defeated Bulawayo Chiefs 1-0 at Luveve Stadium, while Chicken Inn were held to a goalless draw by Hunters at The Heart Stadium.
Ngezi Platinum Stars edged Herentals 1-0 at Baobab Stadium, with MWOS also registering a 1-0 victory over Agama at Ngoni Stadium.
The league continues on Sunday with defending champions Scottland hosting Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium. Dynamos entertain Simba Bhora at Rufaro Stadium, while Hardrock take on Triangle at Chahwanda Stadium.
