ZIMBABWE’S construction industry has expressed its readiness to deepen partnerships with Government to accelerate infrastructure development through public sector projects.
The commitment emerged during the Construction Industry Awards held on Saturday night, where industry players said Government-led infrastructure programmes continue to create opportunities for local contractors.
Award recipients pledged to work closely with Government to deliver projects that support the country’s development agenda.
“This award is a testimony to the work we are doing in fostering development, so working with Government is one of our strategic priorities,” said one award winner.
Another participant said collaboration with Government would unlock further opportunities for the sector.
“Lots of opportunities are there, so it is all about networking with Government officials so that we can further accelerate development in Zimbabwe,” the participant said.
A third award recipient said the recognition would help expand future project opportunities.
“I am happy to have won this award, and this presents more opportunities in the long term regarding the best models to scale up project development in Zimbabwe,” the winner said.
Zimbabwe Building and Contractors Association President Dr Tinashe Manzungu said the strong Government presence at the awards reflected a shared commitment to growing the sector.
“As you can see, Government is represented here by several ministers. This all points to our commitment to identifying opportunities, fostering growth and formulating future strategies,” he said.
Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities Professor Paul Mavima reaffirmed Government’s commitment to working with the private sector to deliver infrastructure projects.
“The ongoing infrastructure projects present many opportunities for local construction companies, so let us work together to further accelerate growth. This is a sector that is growing, and Government’s development agenda dovetails with the need to enhance project execution,” he said.
The awards ceremony comes as Zimbabwe’s construction industry continues to experience increased activity, driven largely by ongoing infrastructure development across the country.
