ZANU PF affiliate organisation, Young Women for Economic Development, has extended social support to female inmates at Beitbridge Prison, donating essential items and engaging inmates on rehabilitation opportunities during the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Family Week.

The outreach took place on Sunday, marking the conclusion of ZPCS Family Week, a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening ties between correctional institutions, inmates and surrounding communities.

During the visit, members of Young Women for ED donated toiletries and held interactive sessions with inmates, focusing on empowerment, skills development and life after incarceration.

“We are really grateful after being remembered with these toiletries by these Women from Young Women 4ED.

“We received some toiletries, and again we got a chance to talk about different projects we can do after serving our sentences.

“The toiletries we received today will really help us women,” female inmates said.

Members of the Young Women for Economic Development believe their gesture of love will give hope to the inmates.

“We saw it fit as Young Women for Economic Development to offer Social support to other Women who are inmates in this Prison so that they do not lose hope as they continue serving. We brought some toiletries for them and engaged them on what project they can do after this,” Spokesperson Young Women for ED Beitbridge District,” Miss Ruvimbo Chida said.

“It is good to see stakeholders offering support to our inmates, especially women, because they also taught them about different projects they can embark on after this,” Chief Correctional Officer ZPCS, Kudzai Makoni said.

The government continues to accelerate programmes to transform prisons from being punitive to being life-transforming centres.
