ZIMBABWE’s influence in continental markets continues to gain traction after being selected to host the African Continental Free Trade Area Association of African Commodity Exchanges Conference next month in Victoria Falls.

In a major step towards strengthening intra-African trade, commodity exchanges across the continent will converge to review trade, identify markets, and exchange ideas on economic integration.

Zimbabwe Mercantile Exchange chief executive officer, Mr Colleen Tapfumaneyi says the country’s selection to host the annual Indaba, running from March 27, reflects the economy’s commitment to increased trade with African countries.

“Hosting the annual conference represents a significant milestone for Zimbabwe thereby offering several benefits, the country will showcase its contributions to the continent’s commodities markets, highlighting its innovative frameworks and market development strategies. It is also expected to attract investments in commodities, natural resources and strategic sectors,” he said.

As the host nation, Zimbabwe will showcase policies being put in place to liberalise the marketing of agro-based commodities.

“The theme of the upcoming conference, “Scaling-up intra-African trade leveraging commodity exchanges for economic resilience and growth, reflects the shared vision of enhancing Africa’s trade ecosystems.

“The event is set to address critical issues such as harmonising trade practices across African markets, building pan-African supply chains, promoting investments in the continent’s abundant resources, and advocating for policy reforms to unlock the potential of regional trade,” Mr Tapfumaneyi said.
