SATELLITE-based internet service provider, Starlink is impressed by the adoption of its services in Zimbabwe, pledging to introduce new low-cost internet services targeting marginalised communities.

The US-based satellite internet service provider was granted an operating license less than a year ago and Zimbabwe has been ranked the fastest-growing market on the African continent, prompting Starlink’s US-based top executive team to jet into the country to further enhance strategic working synergies with government.

The team met the Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services, Honourable Tatenda Mavetera where they pledged to launch other low-cost internet solutions for Zimbabwe.

“We have a resounding success operating in Zimbabwe and we are keen to work with the government of Zimbabwe to ensure that they achieve their target of attaining universal connectivity for their citizens,” Starlink Executive, Mr Shaun Hathrik

The government lauded the impact of Starlink in achieving universal internet connectivity.

“We are excited that since the launch of Starlink last year, the executive team of Starlink is in the country showing how confident the company is in operating in Zimbabwe. They have promised to come up with low-cost kits targeting institutions such as schools clinics and other government institutions,” Minister Mavetera said.

The Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services is making huge strides to transform the local ICT sector and the licensing of Starlink by the government last year signifies a bold step towards establishing a modern ICT-led society.
