THE cordial relationship between the government and its development partners continues to transform marginalised communities, as seen by the commencement of the construction of two boarding dormitories and a computer laboratory at Selukwe Peak Primary School in Shurugwi.
Such government and private sector partnerships are being considered key to the attainment of an upper-middle-income society by 2030.
The development has brought excitement to the local community.
“We are very happy with this development because it will help our children to learn in a conducive environment and play a vital role in achieving high grades at this school,” said a community member.
“Before this initiative, nothing of this sort has ever happened. We have mining giants in this area but they turn a blind eye. We are grateful to ChengXi that they have done commendable work,” added another.
Selukwe Peak Primary School Head Mrs Matildah Zvavamwe hailed the development, saying it will improve the school’s infrastructure and learning standards, in line with the target to attain an upper-middle-income society by 2030.
“We want to thank the private sector for remembering this school because Zimasco Mine neglected us long back, and the standards were deteriorating. I am hopeful and confident that the construction of these blocks will change the face of this school,” she said.
Charmed by government’s inclusive development policies, ChengXi Investments General Manager, Mr Simon Karimanzira indicated the importance of improving learning facilities in the district.
He said, “We sat down as the management team and came up with the idea of giving back to communities that surround our working spaces and this is one of the places where we want to show the nation that Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo.”
Meanwhile, the mining firm also donated more than 500 textbooks to the school, a move set to enhance quality education and promote reading culture.
