ZIMBABWE tightened their grip on the one-off Test against Bangladesh after ending Day Two with the visitors still trailing by 230 runs at Harare Sports Club.
Resuming on 136 for one, the Chevrons produced another dominant batting display, built around a magnificent maiden Test century from Innocent Kaia.
The right-hander converted his overnight half-century into three figures to anchor Zimbabwe’s innings, while captain Craig Ervine contributed a composed 60 and Wessly Madhevere remained unbeaten on 77 as the hosts posted an imposing first-innings total of 426.
Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam was the visitors’ standout performer with seven wickets but found little support as Zimbabwe piled on the runs to seize complete control of the contest.
“Brilliant day altogether to continue from the first day, the guys led by Innocent Kaia helped the team, and at the end that one wicket was priceless,” former Chevrons bowler Prosper Tsvanhu said.
Facing a difficult spell before stumps, Bangladesh made a positive start to their reply despite losing Shadman Islam for nine.
Bangladesh still require another 230 runs just to avoid the follow-on, leaving Zimbabwe firmly in the driving seat heading into Day Three as they chase victory on home soil.
