SADC leaders convene extraordinary summit on Madagascar political situation

THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) is convening a virtual extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government to deliberate on the political and security situation in Madagascar.

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Frederick Shava, is representing President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa at the virtual summit.

The meeting seeks to deliberate on the report of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.

The meeting is being chaired by South African President His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa as SADC Chairperson and offers a platform for Heads of State to provide strategic direction on regional integration, economic development, and peace and security cooperation.

President Ramaphosa called upon regional leaders to remain vigilant in addressing the political environment in Madagascar.
