THE secretarial profession has been hailed as a cornerstone in the effective management of administrative functions across government departments and organisations.

This comes as Executive Assistants and secretaries from various ministries, departments, and agencies gathered in Harare this Friday to commemorate National Secretaries Day, highlighting the critical role they play in ensuring the smooth operation of both public and private sector institutions.

The day recognises administrative assistants, secretaries, and other office professionals for their invaluable contributions to the workplace.

“We have been motivated as we mark this important day on our calendar,” a participant said.

“We play an important role in the organisation to ensure business flows smoothly,” a secretary said.

“We are behind the scenes but involved in a lot of work,” a personal assistant said.

Guest of honour at the event, Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi Chiwenga, said the administrative role of secretaries is integral to organisational efficiency.

“We recognise the invaluable contribution secretaries make at our workplaces. They are the backbone of organisations, and they enable seamless operations. There is a need for exceptional support for our teams’ unsung heroes who keep organisations running smoothly. You manage complex schedules and handle confidential matters; you maintain the integrity and efficiency of the workplace. Continue to strive for excellence,” she said.

Meanwhile, Secretaries from different government ministries, departments and various organisations were rewarded for their sterling work.

“We are recognising the good work that secretaries do. They help keep organisations intact, which is why today we celebrated with various representatives from various organisations,” Organiser, Sandra Chakeredza said.

This year’s National Secretaries Day, organised by Nedle Training Services, also highlighted the expanding responsibilities of administrative staff who have become key figures in ensuring the overall operational continuity of organisations.
