Rufaro hoodoo haunts MWOS ahead of CAPS United showdown

MWOS face a difficult assignment this afternoon as they hunt for both their first victory and first goal at Rufaro Stadium against Castle Lager Premier Soccer League leaders CAPS United.

The Norton-based side has struggled to make an impact at the iconic Harare venue since gaining promotion to the top flight, failing to score in four league matches played there.

Last season, MWOS held CAPS United to a goalless draw before suffering 1-0 defeats to Dynamos and Scottland. Their troubles have continued this campaign after another nil-all draw against FC Hunters and a narrow 1-0 loss to Dynamos at the same venue.

Despite showing promise in other fixtures, Rufaro has remained a difficult hunting ground for The Punters.

CAPS United, meanwhile, head into the encounter brimming with confidence after climbing to the top of the league standings.

Club president Honourable Farai Jere has praised the growing support for domestic football and urged fans to continue backing local matches.

“Fans have been coming in their numbers throughout the campaign, and this has made matches beautiful. The traditional giants are still very much alive, and that adds to the beauty of football. We urge supporters to continue backing football, not just CAPS United, but the entire football spectrum,” he said.

Elsewhere, AGAMA host defending champions Scottland at Wadzanayi Stadium, while Ngezi Platinum Stars welcome TelOne at Baobab Stadium.

ZPC Kariba take on FC Platinum at Nyamhunga Stadium, with Manica Diamonds facing FC Hunters at Sakubva Stadium.

Chicken Inn battle Simba Bhora at Barbourfields Stadium, while Triangle United host Bulawayo Chiefs at Gibbo Stadium.

The Matchday 12 programme concludes on Thursday with Herentals taking on Dynamos.
