President Mnangagwa to attend World Government Summit in Dubai

Story by Bruce Chahwanda, Political Editor

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to attend the World Government Summit in Dubai this week as part of Zimbabwe’s ongoing engagement and re-engagement agenda aimed at attracting investment across all sectors of the economy.

ZBC’s Political Editor, Bruce Chahwanda, who is reporting from Dubai, spoke with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira, to outline the objectives of the President’s participation and the expected benefits for the country.

“UAE is a very important country to Zimbabwe. Currently, it represents one of the highest export markets for the country,” Professor Murwira said. “This summit brings together governments that are able to adapt to technological and geopolitical developments. His Excellency the President will engage with world leaders, business executives, and political figures to advance Zimbabwe’s trade agenda, which has grown exports from around US$2 billion in 2012 to over US$16 billion today. The main objective is to ensure prosperity, happiness and fulfilling lives for the people of Zimbabwe through trade and economic investment.”

Professor Murwira emphasised that the summit also provides a platform to showcase Zimbabwe as a peaceful, stable, and forward-looking country.

“Discussions will cover tourism, technology, and governance. Zimbabwe has been rated by Forbes magazine as a top destination for investment by 2025. These achievements reflect sustained foreign policy efforts and the President’s presence at strategic global forums such as the World Government Summit,” he said.

Highlighting Zimbabwe’s natural and human resources, Professor Murwira noted:

“Zimbabwe is unique, with the highest mineral density, a favourable climate, and strong agricultural potential, including crops such as blueberries and tobacco. The country has a rich heritage, abundant natural resources, a secure environment, and high human capital, with a 98% literacy rate. These attributes make Zimbabwe an attractive destination for investment in minerals, agriculture, tourism, and human capital development. The goal is to translate these advantages into prosperity and improved living standards for all citizens.”

Professor Murwira also outlined the President’s schedule at the summit.

“His Excellency will engage with world leaders in both political and business capacities over the next three days. These meetings align with Zimbabwe’s constitutional mandate under Section 8, Chapter 2, to promote equality, prosperity, and fulfilling lives for all people,” he said.
