PRESIDENT Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa has sworn in Zimbabwe’s new Chief Justice, Elizabeth Gwaunza and Deputy Chief Justice, Paddington Garwe, during a ceremony held at State House in Harare.
The swearing-in ceremony also saw the appointment of Deputy Minister of Lands and Rural Development Honourable Tsitsi Zhou, newly appointed Auditor-General Mrs Vimbai Chikwenhere, and members of the Health Service Commission, Dr Rugare Abigail Kangwe, Colonel (Retired) Dr Lioba Tendai Gunduza and Mr Ernest Takeaway Manyau.
The seven officials took their oaths of office before the President and pledged to execute their duties in line with the Constitution and in service of the people of Zimbabwe.
Speaking after taking her oath, Chief Justice Gwaunza called on judicial officers and legal practitioners to uphold professionalism and integrity in the execution of their responsibilities.
“To the judges, just do your work the best way you know how,” she said, while also encouraging judges and lawyers to remain ethical and guided by the law in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking on behalf of the Health Service Commission appointees, Dr Kangwe said the commission’s mandate is centred on strengthening Zimbabwe’s healthcare system through a motivated and professional workforce.
“The Health Service Commission is tasked to ensure that we have adequate numbers of well-qualified, well-motivated health workers that are equitably distributed across the country, with good morals and ethics, to help Zimbabweans,” she said.
The appointments come as Government continues implementing institutional reforms aimed at strengthening governance, service delivery and public sector efficiency across key sectors of the economy.
