President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially launched the Munhumutapa Housing Scheme in Masvingo this Sunday, a youth empowerment project that will disburse serviced residential stands to over two thousand youths in the province.
The project is a huge statement of intent by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to prioritise the future of the youths in line with the national vision to achieve an upper-middle-income society by 2030.
The Munhumutapa housing project sits on 250 hectares of land in the Victoria Range Extension Suburb and is expected to produce 2 317 housing stands.
The project is expected to be replicated across the country as the Second Republic moves towards empowering young people.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa toured the project, which is currently being serviced, before officially launching the initiative.
“We are gathered here to launch a project set to benefit our youths through housing stands. As government are going to assist them, to ensure all their programmes become a success. Any country that has a future, any country that has hope for survival and development depends on its youths. So today we are saying to our youths, we have come to assure you that we are there for you and we remain committed to ensure that you are empowered,” he said.
President Mnangagwa called upon youths to remain united, contribute towards the development of their country, taking it from yesteryear youths who sacrificed their lives to ensure the independence of the country.
“As youths, let us be remembered for ensuring peace amongst ourselves, working towards the development of our country. As leaders no matter the position you hold, you must unite people through being humble,” he added.
The Second Republic recognises the youth dividend as an important pillar of national development and has promoted various empowerment programmes for youth, including the establishment of a youth micro-finance bank, introduction of a youth quota in parliament, allocation of land and mines.
