On-going ZANU PF party disciplinary hearings are irregular – Dr Mpofu

Story by Bruce Chahwanda, Political Editor

ZANU PF Secretary General, Dr Obert Mpofu says all disciplinary hearings outside the constitution are irregular, hence the need for party structures to follow Politburo directives.

The need for party members to follow the constitution comes after some ZANU PF provincial structures reportedly tried to institute disciplinary hearings for some members deemed to have flouted the party’s constitution.

In an interview at the party headquarters in Harare, ZANU PF Secretary General Dr Obert Mpofu said all forms of disciplinary measures adopted against party members without the involvement of the Politburo are irregular.

“ZANU PF is a party run on principles, constitution, and structures of the party. There is a disciplinary committee chaired by the National Chairman, it is a serious issue and cannot be relegated to other organs. We run the party based on the constitution. Anything outside that is irregular and ZANU PF does not condone that.”

ZANU PF leadership has been on record commending party structures for delivering a resounding victory in the August 23 General Elections as well as in December by-elections.

The ruling party is also working round the clock preparing for the February 3 by-elections which were necessitated by further recalls by CCC interim Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu.
