THE National University of Science and Technology (NUST) is set to hold its 31st Graduation Ceremony this Friday in Bulawayo, with the institution’s Chancellor, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, expected to preside over the event and confer degrees to over 2,500 graduands

This year’s graduation is of particular significance, as 70 percent of the graduating cohort come from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines, fields that are central to Zimbabwe’s ongoing industrialisation and modernisation agenda.

NUST Director of Communications, Mr Thabani Mpofu, highlighted that the achievement reflects the country’s deepening commitment to the Education 5.0 model. The model redefines higher education by moving beyond traditional teaching and research to include innovation, industrialisation, and community service as key pillars for national development.

“Under Education 5.0, universities are expected to produce graduates who not only possess theoretical knowledge, but are equipped to transform that knowledge into tangible solutions, industries, and jobs,” said Mr Mpofu.

The 31st graduation ceremony underscores NUST’s growing reputation as a hub for science-driven transformation. The university continues to produce graduates who are not only ready for the job market but are also empowered to become entrepreneurs and innovators, contributing to Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 of attaining upper-middle-income status within the next five years.

The ceremony is expected to attract government officials, academics, industry leaders, and family members celebrating the achievements of Zimbabwe’s next generation of innovators and industrial leaders.
