ZIMBABWE Women have ushered in a new era after left-arm seamer Nomvelo Sibanda was named captain for the team’s maiden tour of the ICC Women’s Championship in New Zealand.
Sibanda will lead a 15-member squad blending seasoned campaigners and emerging talent as Lady Chevrons prepare to compete at the highest level of the women’s game.
The batting unit will be anchored by experienced campaigners Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano and Modester Mupachikwa, while all-rounders Josephine Nkomo, Loreen Tshuma and Christabel Chatonzwa are expected to provide balance across departments.
The bowling attack features Audrey Mazvishaya, with youngsters Kelis Ndhlovu and Beloved Biza adding youthful energy to the squad.
Zimbabwe will begin the tour with three T20 Internationals in Hamilton from 25 February before travelling to Dunedin for three One-Day Internationals in March.
The ODI series forms part of the ICC Women’s Championship, the primary qualification pathway for the 2029 Women’s Cricket World Cup, marking a significant milestone for Zimbabwe women’s national cricket team on the global stage.
