THE Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has expressed satisfaction with progress on the Hills Luxury Golf Course in Harare, which is being transformed into a world-class sporting facility.

A tour of the site this Thursday confirmed that the facelift is well underway, with the development set to significantly enhance the country’s sports infrastructure.

Beyond golf, the facility will incorporate additional amenities, including tennis courts and a swimming pool, positioning it as a multi-purpose sports complex aligned with the National Development Strategy Two (NDS2).

SRC Acting Director-General, Mr Peter Mudzimiri said the scale of the investment reflects a major boost to the sector.

“We were taken through the facility by the developers, and we appreciated every facet of development. It is a massive investment. Not only will golf be played here, but there will also be other sporting facilities such as tennis courts and a swimming pool.

“They are all part of a multi-purpose sporting infrastructure. There are also social amenities that will support the sporting side. We have been told that there will be hotels and an exclusive residential area. One good thing we appreciated is that there will be public access, which is key to us as the SRC and Government because we want members of the public to benefit,” he said.

Strategically located near the National Sports Stadium, the facility is expected to cater for both local and international sporting needs, including hosting visiting teams.

Accommodation infrastructure such as hotels will also be developed as part of the project, with construction expected to be completed by April next year.

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to modernise sporting facilities and position Zimbabwe as a competitive destination for sport and recreation.
