New boys Scottland, MWOS steal the show as giants stumble

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

PREMIER Soccer League new-boys Scottland and MWOS had a perfect start to their campaign in the top flight after registering wins in their debut matches at the weekend.

Scottland FC showed their intent after recruiting marquee players ahead of the start of the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The Mabvuku-based side were duly rewarded in their debut match in the league after edging Triangle one-nil at Rufaro Stadium in the season opener.

The new boys were not at the level that everyone expected but the three points were sweeter in a debut match.

The own goal gave them victory and their first set of three points.

On Sunday, fellow newcomers, MWOS also needed lady luck to beat Highlanders at Baobab stadium after a mistake from Bosso goalkeeper Raphael Pitisi.

The Norton-based side caused Bosso further problems and could have gone away with a wide margin.

The two new sides will get into their next fixtures full of confidence while traditional giants; CAPS United, Dynamos, and Highlanders struggled in their first matches of the season.

Bosso lost to MWOS, Dynamos were unconvincing in a nil-all draw against ZPC Kariba, while CAPS United had to come from behind to force a one-all draw at Green Fuel.

Another newly promoted side, Kwekwe United held former champions, Ngezi Platinum, Stars to a one-all draw at Bata Stadium as the new boys in the league enjoyed a decent start.
