THE National Darts Association of Zimbabwe is leveraging on relations with tertiary institutions to grow the sport.
The association is visible in sports competitions, supporting organisers with their technical officials for players to be exposed to quality standards.
The officials were in charge of the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union (ZTISU) games, which ended in Bulawayo this Friday as a way of exposing athletes to proper rules governing the sport.
Darts players believe the future looks bright for the sport.
“This is my first time to play darts. At Hillside Teachers College we had no officials to impart the right skill and we are happy NDAZ are implementing the expected standards. This will surely raise the game at our college,
“Playing darts has always been my dream and when we saw the sport code being included this time around. I was happy because I have had an intention of playing darts,” they said.
The National Darts Association of Zimbabwe is promoting grassroots development, hence strengthening relations with sports associations.
Bulawayo Darts Association of Zimbabwe Organising Secretary, Collen Zvimbvatu said they will continue to partner ZTISU to grow the sport.
“As NDAZ, we are happy ZTISU extended an invitation to us to provide technical officials. This is a step in the right direction as we move to grow the sport. We are happy the players are also embracing the new rules they were not exposed to,” he noted.
Zimbabwe will host the Region V darts tournament in Mazowe in August this year, with junior players set to participate.
