Munhumutapa Economic Empowerment Programme launched in Makoni

The Munhumutapa Economic Empowerment programme being spearheaded by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been launched in Makoni District , as part of the national drive towards attainment of Vision 2030.

The Minister of Information. Publicity and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere , who is also Makoni West legislator, outlined the scope and focus of the Munhumutapa empowerment drive aimed at implementing the 8.0 rural development model and subsequently attainment of Vision 2030.

“The President is on a drive to ensure poverty eradication. We have business units in our villages and we are also implementing the climate proof agriculture. The business units are part of the V30 accelerator model. Today we have brought 5000 chicks that you have been given by President Mnangagwa. We once distributed over 40000 chicks within the constituency. The rural development 8.0 also promotes fish farming. We have been given fingerlings for all the districts. We are also going to launch another programme under Chief Tandi and Chief Mupambawashe. We will also be lunching the Presidential Cotton Support Scheme under Chief Chiduku’s area,” he said.

Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Misheck Mugadza spoke on the strides taken in the implementation of economic empowerment programmes mainly benefiting the youths and women.

“Here in Manicaland we have ten youth empowerment initiatives being spearheaded by President Mnangagwa and are moving on well. 1 072 youths were given money by the empower bank. The youths ten hectare programme is also being implemented. The Presidential Housing Scheme is moving on well in Chipinge and there are 3600 stands that are being allocated. The Presidential Heifer Scheme has started with some already recieving thier cattle. In Manicaland every district has a vocational training centre,” he explained.

The youths are highly appreciative of the empowerment initiatives.

“We are very happy with empowerment projects taking place in Makoni West. We want to thank President Mnangagwa and Minister Muswere for the support. We have been given five thousand chicks and ten thousand fingerlings as well as agriculture inputs,” said one.

“As youths we are now going to focus on projects and move away from drug abuse.We want to thank the President and Minister Muswere for such developments. Minister Muswere is spearheading a lot of developmental works within the constituency,” said another.

Economic empowerment and rural development programmes are at the core of the Second Republic’s thrust to accelerate rural development and accelerate the attainment of an upper middle income society by 2030.
